Zaffron — Grounded Genetics

Zaffron brings together two breeding projects that already carry substantial selection history within the Grounded Genetics catalogue.

The result is a line centred around intense exotic fruit aromas, layered with sweet candy, tropical guava and creamy confectionery undertones. Rather than relying on a single dominant flavour note, Zaffron is designed around a broader and more layered fruit-driven profile.

Its visual appeal and resin production are equally important. Grounded Genetics positions the line as relevant to both high-end flower selections and hash-oriented work, thanks to the combination of terpene intensity, presentation and resin output inherited from the two parental projects.

Zaffron therefore stands out not simply as another fruit-forward hybrid, but as the culmination of several years of connected in-house breeding and phenotype selection.

Breeding Background

The maternal side of Zaffron traces back to breeding work started around five years earlier with Zunami, created by pollinating Original Z with Grounded Genetics’ Gelato 41 x Sherb BX1 male.

That male became an important cornerstone within the Grounded breeding programme. From a large Zunami population, Grounded selected a phenotype that combined the visual appeal associated with the Gelato 41 x Sherb BX1 side with a balanced terpene expression from both parents.

That selection was then pollinated with reversed RS11, followed by another hunt that identified an outlier noted for its vibrant fruit and candy profile, forming the Zerberry side used in Zaffron.

On the paternal side, Peach Guava was developed through several generations of selection involving Pink Limez, Taco Colada and Key Lime Guava, with particular emphasis on resin production, washing potential and an unmistakable exotic-fruit expression.
